Frequently asked questions

Can I buy shares or bonds on Biba Neza?+

No. Biba Neza is an information site today: no order can be placed here and no account can be opened here. To invest, you go through a broker licensed by the Capital Market Authority.

Is Biba Neza licensed or regulated?+

No. Biba Neza is not a broker, not an exchange, and holds no CMA licence. Publishing market information requires no licence; any transactional feature would, and none is offered here.

Where do the prices come from?+

From the Rwanda Stock Exchange's public market page. These are the latest prices it publishes, taken by a script each time the site is refreshed, not a real-time feed. Access to RSE market data is expected from September 2026.

How do you open a securities account in Rwanda?+

Through a CMA-licensed broker, who opens an account for you with the central depository (CSD). You need an identity document (national ID for residents, passport for diaspora), a passport photo, and a Rwandan bank account to receive dividends and coupons. The guide sets out the detail.

What is the minimum amount to invest?+

For equities, the RSE requires a minimum lot of 100 shares, about 9,500 RWF for 100 I&M Bank Rwanda shares at the latest known price. For bonds, the standard minimum is 100,000 RWF on government securities and 1,000,000 RWF on corporate bonds.

What about the fractional investing Biba Neza talks about?+

It is a goal, not an offer. Lowering the entry ticket below the standard minimum requires admission to the CMA's Fintech Regulatory Sandbox and a licensed intermediary. Neither is secured today.

What fees and taxes apply?+

Equities carry a 1.71% RSE commission on both buy and sell sides. Dividends and coupons are subject to a 5% withholding tax for residents and EAC investors, 15% beyond.

Is any of this investment advice?+

No. This is general information about how the market works. No personalised recommendation is given, and investing in equities or bonds carries a risk of loss.
